Buckshot Café

History

The Buckshot Café, owned by Maarten Burger and Marc Groenewoud, opened its doors on 15th October 1999.

The soul and jazz bar has two floors, each with its own atmosphere and stage. There is live music every Sunday. Buckshot runs a varied programme with the emphasis on the latest jazz, soul, funk, jazz dance, nu jazz, lounge, funk, fusion and jazz rock. Regularly, there are the so-called Buckshot Specials, themed music nights.

On the third floor, Buckshot has its own professional recording studio set up to capture live performances in real time.

Music

Internationally renowned artists like tenor saxophonist Don Braden, vibraphonist Mike Manieri and fusion pianist Lalle Larson have performed in Buckshot. Local heroes that have played here include Thijs van Leer (Focus), Anton Goudsmit en Martijn Vink, Eef Albers and Hubert Heeringa.

Buckshot Café is an official venue for festivals such as Swingin’ Groningen, Groningsch Peil and GrunnSonic. Annually, upcoming bands perform in Buckshot for the Popronde (a competition for Dutch bands).

Eurosonic

Since 2007 Buckshot Café is one of the venues for local talent on Eurosonic. ROOS, Spotrockers, Rosy Lee, Growlin’ Love & Pain, ZaZa and LeTitre were among the performing artists.
